What to Look for in a Pool Estimate

The director of design and sales at Luxury Pools & Living in Columbus, OH, Paul Brockman led the nation in sales volume and units sold for three consecutive years. Longtime Ohio resident Paul Brockman works closely with clients to understand their needs before presenting estimates and options utilizing a 3D CAD program.

While an in-ground pool is a large investment for a homeowner, the rewards can be even larger. To make the process as stress-free as possible, homeowners should begin by asking their pool builder for a clear, straightforward estimate that addresses the following:

1. Site preparation. An estimate should include sidewalk or driveway protection, fence removal, and temporary fencing during construction.

2. Permits and plans. Clarify if the pool builder will provide drawings and secure zoning, electrical or building permits, as needed.

3. Soil hauling. The estimate should clearly state if the pool builder will remove the soil, typically around 40 tons of dirt, or if this is the homeowner’s responsibility.

4. Project management. The estimate should assign a project manager who will oversee all aspects of construction, start to finish, to ensure ease of communication with the homeowner.
